Situation and next step
| Situation | Sensible next step |
|---|---|
| Project is in England | Review Approved Document H and any other relevant work before installation. |
| Project is elsewhere in the UK | Use the applicable national building standards and local authority guidance. |
| Listed, leasehold or shared property | Check consents and drainage ownership in addition to technical compliance. |
The foul-drainage principle
Waste from a WC must discharge to a suitable foul-water system. Small-bore pumped pipework is part of that system and must be designed, connected and accessible correctly.
National and project differences
England’s Approved Document H is guidance for England, not a single UK-wide rulebook. Electrical work, ventilation, structural alteration, conservation and landlord consent may add separate requirements.
Evidence to retain
Keep the model instructions, route details, installer information, approvals and commissioning records. These help with maintenance, sale and future diagnosis.
Sources and scope
This guide is general information, not a diagnosis or project approval. Product-specific instructions take priority.
